Dark Delicacies Yule Scents

So, BPAL recently released some retail-only scents I'm drooling over:

I'm thinking of ordering Invasion of the Flesh-Eating Reindeer from Uranus.  The $20 it costs is no problem.  The $9.30 for shipping, however, IS!  Would anyone like to order another bottle and split the shipping?  I'm shipping out Yule presents, anyhow, and I'd be glad to tuck a bottle into a package I'm planning to ship anyhow. ;)  I've poked around at the site, and it seems like with as many as 4 bottles, shipping won't go up.

Yule Reviews

I finally received my Yule decants, and I've had a chance to try a few of them.  Here are my reviews

Sugar Cookie 2008 Affectionately nicknamed 'The Devil's Bake Sale'.

Four words: AHM NOM NOM NOM.  Er.  More articulately: My husband and I had snickerdoodle cookies with Thanksgiving dinner.  When I put this on my wrist, they were the first thing I thought of.  It's sugar cookies, alright, foody and buttery and sweet, but there's also a dusting of spice.  I don't think I can survive without a bottle of this.

Butter Rum Cookie A boozy addition to the devil's bake sale! Rum-soaked butter cookies, crusted with sugar, soaked in almond and garnished with orange rind.

Yum, yum, yum! It's like Perversion decided to swagger into the kitchen and bake itself some cookies.  There's BPAL's delicious rum note, and a sugary, sweet, cookie note.  If you like boozy or foody scents, it's a must.  Yes, Santa will be bringing me a bottle of this.

Snow White 2008 A chilly, bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers.

This is so very hard to describe, but it is gorgeous.  There's a flurry of snow, brushing over the petals of white flowers with the softest of perfumes.  It's floral, but very light, and cool. Bottle!

Rose Red 2008
The perfected winter rose, dew covered and freshly cut.

This is the truest, most perfect red rose scent I've ever smelt.  It's like burying your nose in a bouquet of Black Magic Roses.  It doesn't go soapy on my skin, as so many roses threaten to.  I may need a bottle.

A bounty of chocolate coins! Dry cocoa and golden amber!

In the vial, this is all chocolate.  On the skin, it starts out chocolatey, but very quickly, warm, golden amber starts to shine through.  It threatens to turn powdery, but doesn't, and I'm left with what might've happened if The Lion rolled around in Godiva hot chocolate.  I put this on before bed, and when I woke up, there was still a breath of amber on my wrists.  I must have a big bottle of this.

Lick It Like You Mean It Every holiday season should be full of lewd suggestions and filthy double entendres, right? Lick it in earnest! Lick it with vigor! Peppermint candy cane with an extra jolt of sugar.

They're not kidding when they say candy canes!  It's a bold minty fragrance, and while some of the Lick It series has had a hint of vanilla, this one is more mint.  It's a sweet, candied peppermint, though.

Frau Holle Snow-covered pines, witches herbs, bestial musk, flax, and ethereal flowers that represent both birth and death.

This, at first sniff, is a pine forest on a snowy day.  Pine, but a crisp, gentle pine rather than anything close to Pine Sol.  On, it remains an evergreen scent, but a hint of musk comes out.

Snow Bunny 2008
Soft white powder snow with a touch of youthful girlie perfume.

There's definitely some pine in here, but a reviewer called it a "floral/fruity pine scent," and I agree.  It's sweet, light and fun.  Perky pink, even.

On Darkness An embrace: black poppy, lavender, thick black incense, black amber, rose geranium, Brazilian rosewood, and benzoin.

I can definitely smell the incense and amber, and the poppy/opium note.  Unfortunately, this makes me sneeze, so I had to wash it off in fairly short order.

Jacob's Ladder The meeting of Heaven and Earth: golden amber, galbanum, benzoin, ambrette, rockrose, costus and tonka.

Soft, sweet amber.  This is simple loveliness.  (Not helpful, huh?) Probable bottle.

Revenge of More Reviews

Ordered several bottles this last round, and an imp pack. The generous goblins out there gifted me with an amazing 19 frimps, and it arrived when I was having an absolutely HORRIBLE and awful day. Hooray for the magic of BPAL!  I'll have to do the frimp reviews as I get to them, as I have barely begun to scratch the surface on those. Every day is a perfume adventure!

All-Access Wish List

(and since I'm posting it here, I might as well add a few more, right?)

For those who don't have BPAL logins (though I'm of the opinion everyone ought to, heh).

Yule Love This!

Okay, that was terrible, but... time to get the Yule gifting started!  I have Molly, Rae, Lucy and myself interested in sharing Yule gifts, so here are the rules:

  1. Please leave a comment confirming that you're in.  If you're in, you agree to send a gift to everyone else... that's 3 gifts, currently.
  2. Gifts shouldn't exceed $20 in value.  Okay, well, they can, but I'd like the understanding to be that a $1 gift sent with love is perfectly acceptable here.
  3. If you send anything fragile, please, please, please bubble wrap.  If you send anything liquid, please, please, please tape the lids!
  4. Answer the following questions in your reply:
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • Do you have any scent aversions?
  • Do you have a wishlist somewhere, BPAL or otherwise?
  • What is your favorite color?
  • Do you prefer a 12/10 or 12/15 ship date (as in, ship any time before this date)?
  • Do you have a favorite animal? ("pirate" is a perfectly acceptable answer to this)
  • What is the meaning of life?

If you have any objections to any of this, page me or comment here.

Ho ho ho, my darlings!

More Reviews

Some of these I've put in replies to others' posts, but I wanted them here for simplicity.
(Edited to add one to the frimps section, and to mark a claim to another)

First, sorry for not having posted here in so long. What with the lead-up to my trip, followed by the trip itself, followed by playing catchup when I got home, I haven't been feeling like it or thinking about it enough.

For those interested in Yule exchange, I'm all for it! Feel free to put my name on it, and if people want my address, etc, yadayada.

And here's my current, updated list of BPALs...Collapse )
